I've just got back from a brilliant, productive, challenging and hilarious week working with DV8 at NO99 in Tallinn.. and a bit longer in Helsinki because Ryanair cancelled my return flight. Did you know that a cider in Helsinki costs 11 Euros? I was teetotal (raivoraitis in Finnish).
We covered so much ground and Lloyd Newson is a complete genius - decades of experience, exquisite taste and an excellent teacher. The highlight for me was taking Katie Hopkins and transposing the "essence" into a performance involving a microphone, the cable, a physical score, and Etta James' "At Last" to crown it all.
We were working in a brilliant theatre in Estonia called NO99, which has been set up to deliver 99 productions and then close down. A beautiful building and innovative work goes on within its walls.
Can't wait to put what I've learnt into practice... already planning a production based on some of the ideas I've been developing and inspired by Lloyd's brilliant work.
